Rieter from Switzerland is one of the largest Textile Machinery Manufacturing company in the world. This company has instituted an International Award for a student from the Institute selected for this award. One Institute is selected every year for presentation of this award. This selection is based on the reputation of the institute in industry. We are extremely proud to state that this company selected our institute for the Rieter-98 International Award. Mr. D.B. Patil a student of our institute received this award and he visited the Rieter Company in Switzerland and other European countries. The award presentation function was held at Ichalkaranji in Narayanrao Babasaheb Ghorpade Natyagriha on 11th September, 1998. It was attended by over 1190 audience invitees, students & staff.
Our Institute works on philosophy of continuous improvement and therefore, has always been on forefront in the staff development programs. As a part of this, staff members are regularly sent for higher studies on full pay basis. This year Prof. A.I. Wasif completed his Ph.D. from UDCT, Mumbai, Mrs. T.S. Desai also completed her Ph.D. from Shivaji University, Kolhapur, staff members have been deputed for post graduate studies. A large number of teaching as well as non-teaching staff members have been deputed for seminars, conferences, summer and winter schools, part-time courses etc.
Due to the high standard of education being catered to at our institute and also due to the performance of our past students in the industry prefers the graduates and diploma holders of our institute for employment. In the year 1997-98 over 150 students from Textile Department were employed by campus interviews. This year also upto January 1999 around 20 companies have arranged campus interviews and many more will be holding campus interviews in next two months. We hope that almost all the students from Textile courses will be employed by campus interviews. Campus interviews are also being held for students of Mechanical and Electronics Department.
The Management of our institute has always been keen in encouraging our staff for research and development activities. The staff of our institute is actively involved in such activities and as a result of this a large number of papers were published in national and international level conferences, seminars, journals and periodicals.
Our institute has been recognised for its interaction with industry. As a part of these activities we have been providing testing facilities, trouble- shooting consultancy, project planning, appraisal and implementation consultancy, training facilities, product development consultancy, R&D facilities to a large number and periodicals.
The horizons of our interaction were expanded to international level this year and we had two very prestigious projects at international level.
The ministry of National Heritage and culture, Sultanate of Oman, had given us a project which was divided in to three phases. First phase was manufacturing a carpet of 4 Km. length in their weaving factory in Oman. Prof. C.A. Patil and Mr. R.B. Nikam went to Oman stayed there for almost two months and completed the carpet weaving successfully. The second part of the project was joining the carpet pieces. Prof. P.M. Soj of our institute had developed a technique to join these pieces. He was invited to Oman for the work of joining the pieces of the carpet. He stayed there for 20 days and completed the work.
The third and most challenging phase was designing a machine, which can hold this 4km. of carpet and will automatically lay it on the road when required and will unwind it back again. This machine was designed by Mr. V.R. Naik of our Mechanical Engg. Dept. and the design of electronic control panel of this machine was done by Prof, J.R. Desai and Prof. D.V. Kodavade of Electronics Engg. Dept. As per the design the machine was fabricated in Rotfab, Kolhapur and was dispatched to Oman. A team of 5 staff members visited Oman for commissioning of this machine and after successful commission of the machine, it was handed over to the Oman Govt.
The Institute has recently accepted proposal from Churchgate Group Of Nigeria for providing training to 15 managerial level personnel from their Textile Units in Nigeria. As per this scheme a group of 15 high level officials will be coming to our institute for a training of 6 months. This training will commence from February 1999.
Our institute has been authorised by Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank for appraisal of Textile Projects. As a part of this activity our institute has completed appraisals of over 40 projects in last four years.
